Have you received email or snail mail with "Registration Expiring" or something involving your domain name that looks peculiar? Some unscrupulous domain registration companies mine the WHOIS database and send spam/marketing emails that are often misleading and untruthful in order to get you to "renew" your domain name registration. Usually what this does is "transfer" your domain to these less-than-honest companies which DOES renew your domain name. Most domain name transfers add 1 year of life to the expiration date with only a couple of exceptions. Usually these scams are designed to alarm the reader and trick them into taking action, effectively transferring your domain name to an entity which you might not normally want to support.
WebKor never sends paper mail (snail mail) to your home address. If you receive something in the mail, you can safely throw it in the garbage where it belongs
- WebKor never sends emails from any domain other than "webkor.com". If you receive email from another entity, you can safely delete it with one exception:
- Every year, ICANN, the domain authority, sends a "verification" email prompting you to review the registration details for each domain name you own. These details cover your physical address, email address and so forth that is associated with your domain registry. Using bogus details for domain registry can cause you to lose the domain. Given this exception, keep in mind that the notice from ICANN will NEVER ask you to pay for something or to submit login or other confidential info by going to "website x".
The best thing to do in all cases of needing to change anything involving your domain is to login directly to your WebKor Account and make ALL changes there. Renewals, Transfers, New Domains, Your Address and other information regarding your domain name registry can safely be completed from webkor.com. If you receive notice from ICANN to verify your domain details, login to see if they are correct. If they are, no changes are needed and you are in compliance with ICANN rules. You need to do nothing else.
If you are not sure about any communication you receive regarding your domain name, forward the information or give us a call and we'll help you determine the correct course of action. Not a customer of WebKor? We will gladly assist you with any questions you may have EVEN IF everything is fine and your current services/provider have no trouble and the contact you receive is legitimate.
Our goal is to expose and fight back against these giant companies who use false advertising and scare tactics to try to trick you into doing business with them. Fair competition is one thing but cheating people is another. At the very least, we can help make sure you do not get cheated into doing business with a company who may look good on it's face, but actually has no scruples and will do anything to make a buck!
Below is an example of the latest scam that ICANN has yet to address and get some repercussions and shut-downs on these less-than-scrupulous companies. We made notes in RED which give you further pointers on how to check and recognize a SCAM before you get scammed.
